Thursday 14th November
Sedgefield 3.00 Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 2 miles 4 furlongs - 12 run - Good
The Going Stick reading actually suggests this might be on ground just on the soft side of Good.
The top 3 in the market are Clean Getaway, Blended Stealth and Morandi Second. I think that CLEAN GETAWAY is the one they all have to beat here, but I also believe that Blended Stealth and Morandi Second are definitely opposable and vulnerable.
Of the remaining 9 runners, I think the best each way value lies with GINGER POINT and SWIFT REPLY and I also fear Star Vantage.
GINGER POINT is race fit, the trip and Going are optimum and back over hurdles with Brian Hughes booked I'll be disappointed if this horse isn't given an astute tactical ride to run for a place at the very least and to attack those pair of vulnerable types who are second and third in the early betting.
SWIFT REPLY was unlucky to be hampered at the 1st fence on Chase debut and the confidence and rhythm quickly ebbed away after that, a repeat of the previous run over hurdles in to second place and a similar effort here last season over the same trip bodes well, if there are no mental scars from last time, off a very competitive looking matk of 76 with a 7 lbs claim. Those two runner up efforts were off marks of 75 and 77.
The Rebecca Menzies trained Star Vantage is like many in the Yard a slow burning longer term prospect and one to keep a close eye on. (RJ)
