YARMOUTH 2.40 Handicap Class 6 - 1 mile - 12 run - Soft

 

There is a lot of AW form here, none of it very compelling and not a lot of soft ground form. This is a tough straight mile and in the conditions a pair stand out as being excellent e/w value.

 

IF there is a blot at a big price it might just beSir Laurence Graff. Admittedly recent form is dire, but this ex John Gosden horse did run it's best races for the Gosdens at this sort of trip and on soft or softer ground. The drop back in trip and Going could eek something out for a horse whose initial handicap rating was the best part of 2 stones higher. 

 

The main pair though are SPANISH MANE a Course and Distance winner who looked to be running in to a bit of form last time out and who has won on soft ground. The best form is at 7 furlongs but I can't see them going too hard from the start and with some form at a mile, I'll take this one to be very competitive. TWILIGHT GUEST may be finishing best of all though, dropped back from 10 furlongs here off a nice mark on ground that suits and it's always nice to have a prominent type and a staying on type if you are going 2 handed in to a race like this. CATTERICK 4.20 Handicap - Class 6 - 2 miles - 13 run - Good to Soft

 

There is a fair bit of NH Hurdle form here and some of the Flat form suggests many of the Flat specialists may struggle to get the 2 miles on evidence so far.

 

At the top end of the market, prices under 4/1 don't look great value for either The Navigator who is upped in trip nor Fond Farewell who is also upped in trip, having firt race in the UK and has been off for over 10 months. Sam Sarphati ties in closely with one of the selections (Rory The Cat) and merited long consideration and the only one I'd be mildly interested in at a big price may be Major Snugfit.

 

My confident top 2 rated though are LORD TARRANAGA who is a Course winner off a mark of 55, gets 2 miles and who looks the most solid e/w proposition on the Catterick Card today. RORY THE CAT will enjoy the easy 2 miles here and if you ignore the last run off an inadequate trip, looks to have every chance here and no excuses for not delivering (DT)
